Yahweh, our Yahweh,
how majestic is Your name
in all the earth!
That's how psalm 8 begins... David regaining divine perspective. In doing so, he sings about Yahweh, the great "I AM," Creator, Immanuel, Judge & Judgment, merciful promise maker and keeper, holy God of unrelenting love despite our rebellion, rejection, and refusal...
Put yourself in David's sandals for a moment: imagine looking up at the peerless sky 3,000 years ago on a clear and cloudless night deep in the Judean hills... countless stars, constellations, maybe on an evening with a full moon... completely consumed by the glory of God!
Imagine feeling God's Presence... sensing His omnipotence and His eternal majesty in the awesome wonder and beauty of this vast creation; creation consisting of a seemingly boundless cosmos.
Then, in contrast, the epiphany of your own insignificance and impermanence... feet upon a grassy mound... the breath of life filling your lungs... the rhythmic beating of your heart within... your entire life vanishing in a breath like the morning dew.
Depth and profundity intersect with clarity and awe.
God's love irrupted.
David's heart erupted in song:
Yahweh, our Yahweh,
how majestic is Your name
in all the earth!
You have set Your glory in the heavens...
When I consider Your heavens,
the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which You have set in place,
what is mankind that You are mindful of them,
human beings that You care for them?
In this moment, know with absolute certainty YOU are immensely significant to God Almighty. Consider the vastness of the cosmos... then consider this reality: He calls us, you, broken and shattered... His poiema: His workmanship, His masterpiece, His divine handiwork.
You are infinitely and eternally more significant to Jesus, the Eternal Son and Creator, than anything and everything else in all of heaven and earth! You, unlike anything in all of His creation, were made in the image and likeness of God! So important, in fact, that God the Son, Jesus, would step down from heaven... be born in a feeding bin... and go to a Cross to purchase you and your redemption!
Insignificance is the enemy's tool. Pity and defeat are the serpent's way of putting the spotlight on self and circumstances rather than upon Christ, our Creator. Read psalm 8, sing psalm 8, and know that God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and earth, is intimately mindful of YOU... He cares deeply for YOU!
In light of the Cross, you should never, ever, feel alone or abandoned.
After singing, "Yahweh, our Yahweh, how majestic is Your name..." David responded, not just in awe and wonder, not just in tears of regret or thanksgiving, but with his life. A life dedicated, unleashed, and unreservedly abandon unto Yahweh.
What about you? What will divine perspective produce in your life?
