Senior Pastor

Kevin M. Kelley

Pastor Kevin grew up in San Antonio, graduating from John Marshall High School in '86 and UTSA in '93 with a B.Sc. in Kinesiology. Kevin became passionate about physical fitness and opened up a private fitness studio in '00.

Worldly pursuits did nothing to bring satisfaction or fulfillment. In the Fall of '02 he was invited to attend a church service at a Bible church. That's where Kevin heard the Gospel of Christ preached for the first time. God continued His relentless pursuit of Kevin, and in May of '03 he called out to God, "Lord, if you're there please help me to know You!" God answered Kevin's prayer with the transcendent gift of faith (Eph 2:8-9)! Kevin's response was, "Lord, I'll go wherever you want me to go and do whatever you want me to do!"

The Lord led Kevin to First Baptist Church of San Antonio, where he began leading and teaching the Young Professionals ministry. Kevin then became a pastoral intern under Senior Pastor, T. Don Guthrie, and later the interim Single Adults Pastor before moving to Dallas to attend seminary in the summer of '06.

While teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Dallas, Kevin met Christine in the Fall of '10. Kevin proposed in February of '11 and they were married on May 28, 2011. Kevin completed his M.Div. in the Spring of '15. Pastor Kevin and Christine have four children: Delanie, Allie, Connor, and Hannah Grace.

The Kelley's greatest joy is just being together as a family. Pastor Kevin notes, "I have no doubt the Lord has brought us to Poetry Baptist Church. The warm fellowship and extravagant hospitality at Poetry is what made it feel like home from day one. This church family is the answer to countless prayers for all of us. I look forward to loving and serving the church family and community of Poetry in the weeks, months, and years to come!"

Bud Cannon has been no stranger to our fellowship. He served as Music Minister several years back, and has returned to lead us in worship again. He has a wonderful spirit of worship himself, as he leads us in song. He also has a distinct talent and voice when he shares one of his special songs in worship. Bud is a rare treasure to our fellowship, and you will enjoy hearing his heart in testimony and song.
